Its hard to beat a lazy Sunday in
when your only agenda is to eat a delicious brunch and stroll absolutely
aimlessly throughout the city. That’s exactly what we did this past weekend. Paris
We walked from rue St. Honore (stopping at Pierre Herme (light-years better than Laduree) for some macaroons to eat on the way) to Le Fumoir for a delicious two course brunch (you get eggs and pancakes, yes!). Located steps from the Louvre, Le Fumoir is a restaurant/bar that serves brunch and dinner daily, and stays open late for cocktails.
After brunch we were so full we had to walk off a few calories, so we headed towards Notre Dame Cathedral and walked around the Île de la Cité, which is one of two remaining natural islands in the Seine within the city of Paris.
We walked over the Pont de l’Archeveche, which crosses the Seine behind Notre Dame, on Ile De la Cité, to the 5th Arrondissement. It is on this bridge that couples write their names on a lock, attach it to the bridge to declare their eternal love, and then throw the key in the river below. We searched for a friend's lock (needle in a haystack concept) but were unable to find it.
Because it had been all of half an hour since we'd last eaten, we stopped at a quaint cafe, Le Flore en L'Ile, for a cappucino and two scoops of ice cream.
We idled in front of some very talented street performers and then headed to the Latin Quarter to continue our stroll.
We then did the most Parisian thing we could think of: we bought a baguette, put it under our arm and proceeded to eat it as we walked the streets.
It was a perfect, lazy (though we did walk a lot), gluttonous Sunday and we tired ourselves out sufficiently for the two hour Eurostar ride back to London.

I just got back from a weekend in Paris, taking in all of the Christmas decorations and eating my way through The City of Light. Here's how the French capital looks all dressed up for the holidays.

Last Wednesday me and my 5 closest partners in crime all got together for our own Christmas party at the stunning Chelsea town house of my friend Mey. Mey was a fabulous hostess and did a great job decorating the house and getting us all into the Christmas spirit.
Everything is all tidy before the guests arrive (not for long):
I'm still trying to figure out how the heat from this teeny tiny votive candle makes that whole carousel of angels spin ...
Presents and Christmas crackers ...
The ornaments are all hung ...
A little gift for our wonderful hostess ...
A few nibbles and bubbles ...
But a lot more sweets ...
|Hummingbird Bakery cupcakes, yum!|
|Traditional Italian Panettone|
Even the foo dogs are feeling festive ...
Christmas cracker time ... For those of you who are unfamiliar, the cracker is pulled by two people, just like a wishbone, and splits unevenly. The split is accompanied by a small bang or snapping noise. The person holding the larger portion gets to keep the prize inside (usually a paper crown, a sweet, and a really corny joke).
We all crossed arms and held one in each hand and then pulled ... !POP!
The jokes inside where so bad we couldn't help but laugh ...
My girls are such good posers ...
Then it came time to exchange our Secret Santa gifts ... Michelle coordinated her dress with her wrapping paper, talk about attention to detail :-)
Mey was the happy recipient of an Andy Warhol inspired canvas, painted by none other than our own Dara Huang!
Mey and Dara (right) pose with Dara's beautiful painting ... she claimed she just whipped it up last Sunday night ... talk about talented ... I want one!! If you want one too (there is nothing Dara can't paint) then please email me!
Testing the self timer on my camera in preparation for the group shot ...
The brunettes ... we are more than just friends, we are like a small gang ...
The aftermath ... yes we made a TOTAL mess ... but that's the sign of a good party, right?
We're all off for 3 weeks to various destinations: Boston, Washington DC, New York City, Istanbul, St. Barth's, Florida, India and Dubai, but are super excited for what mischief we can get ourselves into in 2013!
